There are generally two methods to connect to CORDIS (the on-line information system sponsored by the CEC to help communicate the results of European initiatives such as ESPRIT projects):
  1. telnet echo.lu

When the screen asks for the login code, enter echo. With this public password you have access to the News database of CORDIS and many other databases that are freely available.

If you need to access the projects mentioned above you have to register as a user of CORDIS. Write to: European Commission Host Organisation; Customer Service; Box Postale 2373; L-1023 Luxembourg.

  2. If you have access to Gopher or WWW you can connect to the public databases of ECHO with the following links:

Internet Web Text (hypertext Internet resource guide)

From: decemj@rpi.edu (John December)
Newsgroups: comp.infosystems.announce
Date: Tue, 8 Mar 94 19:49:33 EST
I've developed a hypertext guide to Internet resources, Internet Web Text, which includes links to information about Internet orientation, guides, reference materials, browsing and exploring tools, subject- and word-oriented searching tools, and information about connecting with people.

More information on the Internet Web Text is available.

My guide employs a variety of ways to present information, including list, narrative, icons-only, and icon-less versions.

Caution: I use icons a lot; you might delay image loading at first.

I created the guide for a course in Computer-Mediated Communication at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute that I am helping to teach. My goal was to create an interface students could use to familiarize themselves with the Internet, how to use it, how to find information, and how to connect with people. This text might also be helpful in any general situation where you are providing links for users to find out more information about the Internet. You are welcome to link to any of the versions.
