Visit the conference web site at http://www.sigada.org/conf/sigada2005/ to find the links and instructions for registering for both the SIGAda 2005 Conference and the DoubleTree Hotel. I look forward to seeing you in Atlanta next month. John McCormick Conference Chair, SIGAda 2005
From: "John McCormick" <mccormick@cs.uni.edu> Newsgroups: comp.lang.ada Subject: SIGAda 2005 Early Registration Deadline Approaching Date: 14 Oct 2005 08:51:41 -0700 SIGAda 2005 is being held in Atlanta November 13-17, 2005. The deadline for early tutorial and conference rates is October 17th. While we can no longer guarantee conference rates at our venue, the DoubleTree Hotel, Atlanta-Buckhead, the last time I checked they still had rooms remaining at the conference rate. Thursday, November 17th is dedicated to Ada 2005. This is a perfect opportunity to hear about Ada 2005 from members of the ISO/IEC Working Group responsible for the development and standardization of Ada. On top of that, there will be many opportunities to network with Ada experts in industry and government, giving you unique insights into technologies beyond those currently released. You can find descriptions of the tutorials, see the technical program, and register for the conference at our web site: http://www.sigada.org/conf/sigada2005/ If you need a few days beyond the early rate cutoff date, contact our Registration Chair (contract information on the web site) and request an extension. I hope to see you in Atlanta. John McCormick SIGAda 2005 Conference Chair

Subject: Approaching Deadline for Nominations for SIGAda Awards
Date: 5 Oct 2005 07:30:13 -0700
Dear Members of the Ada Community:
On Wednesday, 16 November 2005, the 2005 SIGAda Awards will be
presented in a special morning plenary session at the SIGAda 2005
conference in Atlanta, Georgia. (See
http://www.acm.org/sigada/conf/sigada2005 if you have somehow missed
announcements of this year's annual SIGAda international conference.)
We welcome your nominations of deserving recipients.
The ACM SIGAda Awards recognize individuals and organizations who have
made outstanding contributions to the Ada community and to SIGAda. The
two categories of awards are:
(1) Outstanding Ada Community Contribution Award
-- For broad, lasting contributions to Ada technology & usage.
(2) ACM SIGAda Distinguished Service Award
-- For exceptional contributions to SIGAda activities & products.
Please consider who should be nominated this year. You may nominate a
person for either or both awards, and as many people as you think
worthy. One or more awards will be made in both categories.
Please visit
http://www.acm.org/sigada/exec/awards/awards.html#Recipients and peruse
the names of past winners. This may help you think about the measure
of accomplishment that is appropriate. You may be aware of people who
have made substantial contributions that have not yet been
acknowledged. Nominate them. Consider what you believe to be the best
developments in the Ada community or SIGAda in the last year; the last
5 years; since Ada's inception. Who was responsible? Nominate them.
Please note that anyone who has received either of the two awards
remains eligible for the other. Perhaps there is an outstanding SIGAda
volunteer who has won our Distinguished Service Award and who has also
made important contributions to the advance of Ada technology, or visa
versa. Nominate him or her!
The nomination form is available on the SIGAda website at
http://www.acm.org/sigada/exec/awards/awards.html. (You need to visit
this website to see past award winners' names, and also a picture of
the statuette which is the award among other things, so you don't
nominate someone who has already won an award in a category.) Submit
your nomination as an e-mail attachment to SIGAda-Award@ACM.ORG. You
may also submit nominations on-line at:
http://www.acm.org/sigada/cgi-bin/ICRS-Register.cgi?Awards
The ACM SIGAda Awards Committee, comprised of volunteers who have
previously won an award, will determine this year's recipients from
your nominations.
Call our attention to the people who are most deserving, by nominating
them. And please nominate by OCTOBER 15!
Your participation in the nominations process will help maintain the
prestige and honor of these awards.
Thank you,
John McCormick

From: "rleif" <rleif@rleif.com> Newsgroups: comp.lang.ada Subject: SIGAda Workshop Date: 31 Aug 2005 22:27:35 -0700 I tried to post this once; but I could not find it on Comp.Lang.Ada I am chairing a workshop/BOF on Commercializing Ada at SIGAda 2005 on Wednesday November 16. Since, I have the biased opinion that progressive software is a better means of promoting the use of Ada than free software (GNU), I wish to invite anyone who believes that free software is a better approach to present his or her views. The major differences between free and Progressive software is that under the latter, the developers get royalties on their work and the purchasers are free to do what they want provided it does not impair the developers' royalties. I also wish to explore the possibility of a vendor or group hosting an Ada compiler under Microsoft Visual Studio including use of Ada enhanced versions of the elements of the Visual Studio environment (editor, debugger, etc.). Has anyone created a product for Windows CE or Windows XP embedded or produced an application with A# in the Visual Studio environment? Presentations on experience with the combination of XML and Ada will be most welcome. Anyone, who has any other ideas, thoughts, etc. on how to increase the use of Ada in commercial markets including how we can leverage the present use of Ada for defense and aerospace, is invited to present. All are invited to attend and participate. Since I am flooded with spam, please put the word Ada in the Subject Heading of any reply to this message. Thank you. Bob Leif rleif@rleif.com

The SIGAda 2005 conference focuses on how the application of software engineering methods, tools and languages interrelate and on how features in Ada affect the quality of the resulting software. Papers that analyze Ada with respect to these factors or in comparison to other languages are especially welcome. SIGAda 2005 gathers industry experts, educators, software engineers, and researchers interested in developing, analyzing, and certifying reliable, cost-effective software. Technical or theoretical papers as well as experience reports with a focus on Ada are solicited. A brief list of topics include safety and high integrity issues, real-time and embedded applications, Ada & software engineering education, Ada in other environments such as XML and .NET, Ada and other languages, metrics, standards, analysis, testing, validation, and quality assurance. For a more extensive list of topics visit the SIGAda 2005 web page. Contributions are solicited in six categories: Technical articles, extended abstracts, experience reports, workshops, panels, and tutorials. We openly welcome contributions from educators and students. Educator grants are available that include conference and tutorial registration fees. These fees will also be waived for student authors whose papers are accepted for publication. An Outstanding Student Paper Award will be given for the best student contribution to the conference. Technical articles or experience reports from students could focus on such projects as comparing applications implemented in other languages and then re-implemented in Ada, mixed language development of applications, how Ada is used with XML or .NET applications, and/or software engineering education experiences with Ada. The keynote speaker will be James Leonard, a Boeing Senior Technical Fellow at Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. His talk, "Faster Than a Speeding Bullet", will explore the past and future of programming. Please see the full Call for Participation on the SIGAda 2005 web site for submission details. http://www.acm.org/sigada/conf/sigada2005 The deadline for submission is 16 May 2005. Please let me know if you have any questions.
