Date: Wed, 07 Jun 1995 07:24:15 -0400 (EDT) From: Prof R ConnHello, Everyone,Subject: June 95 Edition of Walnut Creek Ada CDROM To: pal-public@wunet.wustl.edu Cc: ada-aware@sw-eng.falls-church.va.us, sigada-elected@sw-eng.falls-church.va.us, team_ada@acm.org
I am delighted to announce that the June 1995 edition of the Walnut Creek Ada CDROM is now available! This CDROM, which is a complete copy of the Public Ada Library (PAL), is approximately 1.3G bytes (compressed) in size -- over 100M bytes larger than the previous March 1995 edition -- and is still a 2-CDROM set (just barely). More than a thousand files have changed since the March 1995 edition.
The CDROM contains the collective works of hundreds (if not thousands) of members of the Ada community. It is OUR ambassador, acting in many ways to promote Ada83 and Ada95 within and without the Ada community. I am pleased to note that the Ada Joint Program Office (AJPO) has purchased copies of this CDROM for all DoD Research Labs. The AJPO has also purchased copies for all attendees at the Ada and Software Engineering Education Team (ASEET) Symposium this month, while SIGAda has purchased copies for the attendees at the Washington Ada Symposium 1995 at the end of this month. SIGAda has been using the previous editions in its Ada promotion effort and will continue the effort with this new edition. Of course, copies are also available from Walnut Creek itself and through bookstores in many countries.
This Ada CDROM contains a new access mechanism from the previous editions: HTML. All of the catalogs you are used to from the previous editions are still there, but added is a complete copy of the PAL Card Catalog in HTML, suitable for browsing using Mosaic and Netscape. This catalog contains almost 600 HTML files and allows you to easily locate items on the CDROM as well as transfer them from the CDROM to your local disks.
More information follows. Enjoy using the PAL and the Walnut Creek Ada CDROM!
Rick Conn PAL Manager
Welcome to the Walnut Creek Ada CDROM! This CDROM is a complete copy of the Public Ada Library (PAL) as of 28 April 1995.
There are almost 600 different items on this CDROM, such as the GNAT Ada compiler (versions 2.03 and 2.04), the SEI's Capability Maturity Model, and the AdaSAGE development platform. There are four ways to easily find things on this CDROM:
The Ada program form is in source code and has already been compiled for and is ready to run under MSDOS. To use the Ada form, the file qstart.txt is provided as a short, about 10 minute, tutorial that you can print out and then use to run the PAL Card Catalog program.
The hypertext form is ready to run using Mosaic, Netscape, or any other World Wide Web client program. The hypertext form is composed of almost 600 HTML files.

Richard Conn Manager, PAL
This is a TWO DISC set. The second CDROM contains AdaSAGE and VHDL. The first CDROM contains everything else.
This CDROM is in ISO-9660 Format, with Rock Ridge extensions. If your system supports the Rock Ridge extensions, you can access the files using the original Unix-style filenames. If you system does not support Rock Ridge, you will see the filenames truncated to MSDOS style 8+3 filenames. Each directory contains a file named "00_trans.tbl" that translates the original filenames to the shortened names. For MSDOS, the "VIEW.EXE" utility will translate these names for you automatically. Just run "VIEW.EXE" in the top directory of the CDROM.
This CDROM comes with an unconditional money-back guarantee. If you are dissatisfied for any reason, you may return it for a full refund.
