Announcing the Availability of the June 1994 Edition of
the Walnut Creek Ada CDROM
The June 1994 edition of the Walnut Creek Ada CDROM is now available. A copy of the Public Ada Library (PAL), this edition supercedes the March 1994 edition, reflects the contents of the PAL as of June 8, 1994, and contains over 25% (150M bytes) of new material, including:

information on several other Ada-oriented reuse libraries
(including how to obtain accounts with them):
AdaNET (ELSA), ARC, ASSET, CARDS, DSRS, and PRISM
This Ada CDROM contains about 619M bytes of Ada-related material
in compressed form (Info-ZIP is the primary program used for
compression of the material), which expands out to between 4G and 5G
bytes of material. It can be divided as follows:
Software Tools (written in Ada) 209M bytes
Documents 121M bytes
Ada9X Documents and Information 82M bytes
Ada83 Documents and Information 80M bytes
Ada83 and Ada9X Compilers 60M bytes
(source code included)
User Support Documents and Tools 28M bytes
Reusable Ada Software Components 14M bytes
Courseware 14M bytes
Other 11M bytes
In addition, almost all the software assets on this Ada CDROM have
been certified using the Certifier_1 tool. Those assets which did
not pass certification have been removed, and the abstracts in the
PAL Catalog and Card Catalog include the reports generated by
Certifier_1. See the PAL FAQ and the Certifier_1 tool for more
information on the meaning of certification in this context.
Grouping by assets, the material on this Ada CDROM can be divided as follows:
544 Assets
228 Textual Assets
316 Software Assets
297 Certified Software Assets
Class A - 120 Assets
Class B - 110 Assets
Class C - 53 Assets
Class D - 7 Assets
Unclass - 7 Assets
19 Assets Not Yet Certified
(should be certified in the next edition)
Of the 297 Certified Software Assets:
10,221 Files
14,556 Ada Library Units
3,981,820 Lines of Code
1,208,002 Ada Statements
This edition, like the last one, includes a very easy-to-use
browser for MSDOS and the PAL Card Catalog, in both Ada source form
and a precompiled/ready-to-run form for MSDOS (which also works under
Soft-PC for the Mac and Next). This edition adds a full-color
animated introduction to the Public Ada Library (and this CDROM)
which runs under MSDOS (and the Mac and Next if Soft-PC is used)
which answers many user questions about the material on the
CDROM and how to more efficiently use the CDROM.
The material on this Ada CDROM is available through the Public Ada Library (PAL) on the host computers wuarchive.wustl.edu, ftp.cdrom.com, and ftp.cnam.fr. Many of the other reuse libraries also carry this material.
All material on this Ada CDROM has been approved for public release with unlimited distribution. A few shareware items are included, and I ask that their requests for support be considered.
This Ada CDROM is available from Walnut Creek Ada CDROM, 800/786-9907, orders@cdrom.com. It's single-order price is $39.95, and a subscription to this and future editions can be taken out for $24.95 per CDROM (billed to your credit card as each Ada CDROM comes out). Future editions will probably remove the less popular items to make room for new material.
Relationship: I helped Walnut Creek CDROM put this product together and receive no income from its sale whatsoever. The information presented in this message is provided as a service to the Ada community, informing them of an alternative to using the Internet to access the material in the PAL. Other products (including other Ada CDROMs), both commercial and non-commercial, are also available to support the PAL user; see the PAL FAQ or the userdocs/alt_srcs directory for details. I wish to thank Walnut Creek CDROM, particularly Bob Bruce and Jack Velte, for their interest in and support of the Ada community by publishing this Ada CDROM and freely sponsoring the FTP.CDROM.COM host computer for the PAL.
