The 11th Prolog Programming Contest !

Took place at the occasion of ICLP2005 and CP2005

In lovely Sitges, Spain.

On Sunday 2 October, 2005, from 18 till 20 in the conference hotel.

It was a laptop contest (BYO) !

People could use SWI-Prolog, XSB, YAP, Ciao , GNU Prolog , SICStus Prolog and ECLiPSe .

The questions and testfiles are available here

During the conference, 11 teams participated (33 people). The winning team consists of Peter Szabo, Peter Szeredi and Mats Carlsson: congratulations. For a more elaborated report on the contest, see the next issue of the ALP newsletter .

The web version of the contest ...
Only three teams participated. Two teams consisted of only one member, one team had only two people in it. One team submitted twice and only the last submission was taken into account. One team submitted very early, but got one problem wrong. Two teams got all problems right, but one team submitted solutions using ... setarg/3 yuk. In any case, the fastest team with 6 correct solutions was

Bernhard Pfahringer from Dept. of Computer Science, University of Waikato

He won this web version of the contest already 4 times now ! He comments himself on his solutions:

"accept my apologies for some truly ugly Prolog code, obviously my mind has been poisoned by too much Java exposure :-)"

Congratulations Bernhard.

Jean Michel Leconte also solved all 6 problems - but some with setarg/3 - and only marginally slower than Bernhard.

Christian Flicker and Markus Triska were very fast, but missed one problem: in a system with strong modes, their bug would have been caught at compile time ...

Bart Demoen and Phuong-Lan Nguyen

A book about the First 10 Prolog Programming Contests is now available.
